Stories & Reflections

To honor the women who spoke belief into us before we could speak it ourselves.
Woman holding tulips and a card. May is a beautiful month. Spring has sprung, flowers are in bloom and the weather is warming up. As you may know, I speak often about limiting beliefs and the things that hold us back in life. But what about the beliefs that empower us, propel us to new heights. When I think of these beliefs, I think of how my mother has been an instrumental part of my positive mindset and can-do attitude. In this month’s inspirational reminder, I would like t

The Trials & Tribulations of the Unpaid Tech Help
Every year when I return to my childhood home, there is a request from my mother or her husband to help with some kind of technology issue. They admit to being technology challenged but over the years their negative visceral reaction to learning new technology has been growing. Normally, I serve as tech support but this year my son is old enough to take over the reins. In all candor, having this role can be challenging. After one difficult tech help session that was filled wi

My Next New Friend
I carefully open the packaging, slipping it out of its wrapper. Inhaling the newness, inspecting the cover, I slowly open the journal. The pages so empty ready to hold my secrets, ideas, fears, and experiences. Slipping the ribbon from in between the pages, I let it slide through my fingers. Twirling it as I contemplate my first words. Everything is so perfect, clean, crisp, untouched. My pen fits perfectly in my fingers waiting to make its mark. I close my eyes and let the w

Thanks for allowing me to rant
Today’s blog post is more for me than anyone who reads this. It is an outpouring of frustration and fear with the hopes that by the time I am done writing this, I will have the clarity and strength that I desire. Living the awakened life is not as easy and uplifting as all the social media quotes my have you to believe. There are times of internal struggle. Knowing what needs to be done, having the strength it requires to do it, and knowing it will turn out as it is supposed

To Love Life
I believe to truly love your life one needs to take the good, bad, and everything in between. Appreciate it, learn from it, and know that the experience is why you came to be. At times loving life is easier said than done. I have had a great life and it was always easy for me to say that I loved my life. I would say it so casually not truly understanding the gravity of the statement. But these past few weeks tested my belief. My son's appendix ruptured and we did not know i

The Second Child
Four years ago when our son was about seven it was decided that we would get him a dog. We named her Noepe (Wampanoag word for Martha'sVineyard). He promised us that he would care for her, walk her, do poop patrol, and give her lots of love. Most of that proved to be true. Noepe is a cattle dog part Kelpie, Blue Heeler, and Aussie Shepherd. True to her breed she attached to one person - me. With a hard start to life she was not a "normal" loving puppy. One that always wanted

Motherhood Musings
If you asked me twelve years ago what it is like to be a mother, I wouldn't have had an answer for you. Granted my life partner and I thought about having a baby but to actually know what it would be like, was like asking me how does it feel to be an astronaut. Then on Easter 2010, I was given the first taste of what it is like to be a mother and it was glorious. “Being a mom has made me so tired. And so happy.” - Tina Fey“ "Making a decision to have a child—it’s momentous.

Four legged love
I write this post as I sit here watching my sweet, opinionated, teen age puppy dog sleep. Most people I know (including me) would rather be with their animal companion than with other humans. You see this sentiment shared all over social media, t-shirts, and coffee mugs. But why is this so? What makes animals better company than another human? My puppy dog has chewed, destroyed, peed, pooped, and made life uncomfortable at times. When I have complained it is easy for those th

What is a smile?
Today I had to speak with my phone carrier to solve a problem. This was the second call within a three-day period, so I had a bit of an attitude. The representative was nice as I explained the situation. I was put on hold a number of times as he worked to fix the issue. The whole time I was reminding myself he is doing his job, be nice, and silence the ego. Unfortunately for him, he had to do what another representative said had been done but wasn't and apologized for my inco
